15-4. PICKUP ZONE OPERATIONS Prior to arrival of aircraft, the PZ is secured, PZ control party is positioned, and the troops and equipment are positioned in platoon/ squad assembly areas. In occupying a patrol/ squad assembly area, the patrol/ squad leader does the following steps. Figure 15-8 shows an example of a large, one sided PZ. Figures 15-9 through 15-12 show loading/ unloading procedures and techniques: • Maintain all round security of the assembly area. • Maintain communications. • Organize personnel and equipment into chalks and loads. • Conduct safety briefing and equipment check of troops.
