ANTENNA LENGTH PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS. The length of an antenna must be considered in the construction of field expedients. At a minimum a quarter of the frequency wavelength should be used as the length of the FE Antenna. Another important factor in LOS communications is the height of the antenna with relation to the receiving station. The higher the antenna the greater the range the radio transmission will have. Terrain and curvature of the Earth affect LOS communication by absorbing
