8 - 19 (1) The first Ranger enters the room and moves left or right along the path of least resistance to one of two corners. He assumes a position of domination facing into the room. During movement he eliminates all immediate threats. (2) The second Ranger (normally the team leader) enters the room immediately after the first Ranger. He moves in the opposite direction of the first Ranger to his point of domination. During movement he eliminates all immediate threats in his sector. NOTE: During high-intensity combat, the Rangers enter immediately after the grenade detonates. Both Rangers enter firing aimed bursts into their sectors engaging all threats or hostile targets to cover their entry. NOTE: If the first or second Ranger discovers that the room is small or a short room (such as a closet or bathroom), he announces, "Short room" or "Short." The clearing team leader informs the third and fourth Rangers whether or not to stay outside the room or to enter. b. The third Ranger moves opposite direction of the second Ranger, scanning and clearing his sector as he assumes his point of domination (Figure 8-15). Figure 8-15 c. The fourth Ranger moves opposite of the third Ranger to a position that dominates his sector (Figure 8-16).
