For its time, it was a world class information retrieval system that pioneered many scale-up, scale-out, and statistical search technologies. It was used successfully by many businesses, such as, publishers like Dow Jones, onlines like AOL, and OEMs like Apple. Designed and delivered many industry firsts, such as, real-time updatable, 2pc transactions, first cd-rom (on Windows, too, and MSFT said it couldn't be done), compressed index, multi-byte charsets, first "large model" MS-Windows app (and MSFT said it couldn't be done). Many of the techniques invented and used are just becoming commonplace for Big Data. Worked with some great people, had some awesome customers.
